Thanks Cosmo for a good interview about your days as producer for the Billy Goodman show at KVEG.

We have it posted also on our highlights window of our main site, a link to the tribute.

Billy Goodman was king of the late night weirdness at KVEG in Las Vegas and his UFO shows were things of legend. Jerry talks with Cosmo, A TV UFO talkshow host, who got his start as phone screener for Billy in 1989. Click here to listen to some fun stories of behind the scenes talk radio in honor of Goodman who passed away last week. http://www.ipodshows.net/billy_goodman.htm

The Billy Goodman Happening Pt 1 A Night With The Billy Goodman Happening KVEG Radio Las Vegas, Nv. October 1989

Billy Goodman

Investigative Reporter, Broadcaster and Media Personality

Billy Goodman who made AREA 51 a household word while doing a talk show in Las Vegas was born in a little town without pity called centrdale in Rhode Island. Raised in a boarding house until the age of five then brought up with his grandparents, he spent most of his time in pool halls. He Played a little sports like baseball, basketball, and football in grammar and high school. He snuck an air check into Northeast broadcasting schools management day.

A station manager in Claremont, N.H. called him in for an interview which led to his first radio gig - afternoon drive on WTSV, a Knight Quality radio station which featured 101 strings type music. When he went on the first song he played was "Fun Fun Fun" by the Beach Boys. Needless to say the manager lost it big time, and eventually let him go.

His Next stop was WADK in Newport, R.I., and while there received a call from the owner of WORC in Worcester, Ma. At the time WORC was the only all request station in the country and was looking for a night man. Some of the biggest names in the states wanted that job but he got it.

He did whistle stops at stations but didn't last long at many of them. Station managers just didn't want to put up with his concept of what their stations should be doing. He finally wound up back with Knight Quality Radio programming WSAR making it sound like an FM station on an AM dial. This proved successful enough for the #1 station in Providence, WPRO, to make him an offer which he accepted.

HIs wife Judy divorced and his life was in shambles for a time until he landed in Las Vegas and wound up working at a 50,000 clear channel radio station KVEG. While at KVEG information started surfacing about a place about 140 miles away called AREA 51. He interviewed anyone who had anything to do with this place and found out toxic waste was being burned out in the open and there were flying saucers in captivity along with aliens on the base. Anybody in government denied its existence so he and his audience went out into the desert to see for themselves - even under the threat of arrest.

There is so much he could tell about this time in his life but he is saving it for a book or when he is asked to speak on it. Today he's back with Judy and is enjoying life the best he can.

About My Friend Billy Goodman

A Letter from Cosmo to you all.

I am often asked why do I mention a Billy Goodman at the end of every Cosmic Connection show. This great man opened the door to a then 25 year old long haired freak. When I didn’t know a thing about radio or broadcasting and took me under his arm and taught me this wonderful craft of having people hear about ones opinions and paint the pictures on the air waves. After all he is the person who by broadcast and interviews told the world and made AREA 51 the household name that it is today. So here is a page that rightly so is deserving to my mentor Mr. Billy Goodman.

In 1989 I came to the conclusion that we are not alone. I became enthralled in the study of UFOs. Then by complete happenstance I heard a radio talk show host by the name of Billy Goodman speak on his show "THE BILLY GOODMAN HAPPENING" Las Vegas KVEG AM 840 on the UFO subject and sightings of his listening audience. Mr. Goodman I found out later had been broadcasting for all of two weeks on this station little did I know he was a rock jock on Los Angeles radio during the British Invasion when I started calling into his program with my two cents worth on the subject. After one of these calls I was asked if I would like to produce "THE BILLY GOODMAN HAPPENING" along with his lovely co-host Gloria Euphoria. Having a daytime job to support an already hectic lifestyle I found myself working for Mr. Goodman and learning the broadcasting trade. After two years with Billy and his wild guests of Bill Cooper, Bob Lazar, Bill Hamilton etc. etc. Then the powers that be came up with a wonderful format change, lets take what is a successful talk show and trash it for all news all the time. And so " THE BILLY GOODMAN HAPPENING" as I knew it faded into UFO lore.

THANK YOU BILLY R.I.P. MY FRIEND
Cosmo
